CONTROLLING COVID-19 TOP PRIORITY IN MONDAY’S THRONE SPEECH

Monday’s Throne Speech highlighted the importance of both protecting the lives and livelihoods of the people of Saskatchewan. The Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce supports the Provincial Government’s efforts to both fight and control the pandemic and minimize its economic impacts on our community.

The related supports announced in Monday’s speech were welcome.

  • A temporary small business tax cut from 2% to 0% starting October 1, 2020 until July 2023.
  • An immediate 10% drop in SaskPower for residential and businesses
  • The Saskatchewan Home Renovation Tax Credit, homeowners will be able to claim a 10.5% tax credit up to $20,000 of eligible home expenses incurred between October 1, 2020 until December 31, 2022.

These changes are tangible steps in the right direction that will assist in helping businesses now. These immediate supports and other priorities that are designed to protect lives and boost our economy are crucial for our economic recovery.
