In business since 2010, Riverlot Orchards Winery & Bistro is located inside a castle, designed by owners Eric and Irina Kotelko to resemble an 18th century European bistro. The couple developed the property, planting their own fruit trees including honeysuckle, raspberries, sand cherries, black currents, plums and apples, and sourcing local meat and ingredients for their menu.
The bistro is open each year from May to early October, although their wines are available year-round through their website and are available for sale in 20 liquor stores across Saskatchewan. Products from Riverlot Orchards can also be found at local farmers’ markets, including home-made pies, jams and syrups.
After lunch at the bistro, guests can dress up in hand-made traditional costumes for photos with a view of the river. An amateur seamstress, Irina sewed many of the dresses herself, and also made the tablecloths, slip covers for the chairs and ceiling drapery for the bistro.
A European experience like no other in Saskatchewan, Riverlot Orchards attracts tourists from far and wide. The bistro is open Thursday to Sunday each week from Noon to 8 p.m. and can accommodate just over 100 people. For convenience, larger groups can call ahead with their orders as well.
Customers at the bistro have great reviews and say “the food is addictive.”
Adds Irina, “we have great wine and a nice location for guests, so bring your family and friends!”
