The Lifetime Member Award is awarded to a long-time local business owner who has provided a significant amount of service to the Chamber and/or the larger community.
Mr. Matheson operates Ted Matheson Men’s Wear, a fixture in downtown Prince Albert for the past 88 years. A family-owned business, Ted Matheson Men’s Wear, was started in 1929 by Fred’s grandfather Ted. In later years, his uncle Fred and father, Jack, joined the business. Fred Matheson the younger started at the store in 1986 after finishing university. At the urging of his father, Fred joined the local Chamber Board of Directors, and served as a board member for five years.
He has remained active in the Chamber, and is a member of both the Prince Albert & District Chamber of Commerce and the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce. Ted Matheson Men’s Wear received a Saskatchewan ABEX Award in 2014 in the Community Cornerstone category, which recognizes a Saskatchewan small business with deep roots and a long-standing support for the local community.
Fred credits support from family, friends and the community as a key part of the success of Ted Matheson Men’s Wear.
“The biggest successful businesses, no matter what it is, can’t do it on their own,” he adds. “Those that are successful have good people around them.”
Chairman’s Night 2017 will take place October 12. Donald Cooper from the Donald Cooper Foundation will be the guest speaker for this event and will focus on helping small and medium-sized businesses redefine and re-energize their business. Mr. Cooper will offer an interesting and insightful message with tips on marketing and redefining your business by how you help others, rather than what you sell.
Chairman's Night 2017 will also feature the induction of the 2017-18 Chamber Board of Directors, fine dining, and a silent auction in support of business students at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
