I hope everyone has enjoyed the fall and took advantage of the great weather.
The Chamber is continuing its efforts to host great events for our members. On November 20/2014 we are hosting a fraud workshop with facilitators from RBC Royal Bank and Deloitte, as well as Prince Albert Police Service and the RCMP – economic crime division. This a free workshop to inform attendees on the risks of fraud, along with detection and prevention techniques.
The Chamber is pleased to have a couple opportunities to collaborate with the City of Prince Albert. We will be gaining and sharing insights into P3 models in an upcoming P3 information session, which will also be a great opportunity for the Chamber to expand on the knowledge gained from the recent P3 summit hosted by the Saskatchewan Chamber. As taxation planning is in full swing, the Chamber is looking forward to the opportunity to host a roundtable session with City Council and administration staff to review the city’s plans and priorities for the 2015 general fund budget.
In addition to the taxation roundtable, the Chamber will also present its 2015 tax recommendations to City Council. I encourage all interested Chamber members to join us at the presentation on Monday, November 10th/2014. We will also post our 2015 recommendations on our website.
Looking ahead, the Chamber and its partners, including the City of Prince Albert, will be hosting a summit to release and discuss an upcoming report on the economic importance of a second bridge to our city and region. This report will be very different from past ones that focused on location. This report will quantify the various economic impacts, both positive and negative, that can and do occur due to the limitations of having a single bridge in the city.
The Chamber has continued to focus on capital planning for the critical components of infrastructure, healthcare and civic facilities. These core components will determine the success of our growth as we move into the future.
As always, I encourage members to contact me with questions or feedback. It is very important that our work & efforts align with the needs identified by our members.
