Mr. Hansen will be presented with the 2017 Legacy Award at the annual Legacy Brunch, set for March 22 beginning at 11 a.m. The Legacy Brunch is sponsored by the Northern Lights Casino and Scotiabank. The Legacy Award recognizes a longtime local business owner or family whose work has had a positive impact on the wider community.
Mr. Hansen started Prince Albert Alarm Systems in the mid-1990s, partnering with Barry Dutchak at Parkland Ambulance to form a local alarm monitoring company. Starting in the basement of Parkland Ambulance, the business has grown and moved several times, and relocated to a larger building along 2nd Avenue West in 2015.
Mr. Hansen took over the business full-time in 2000.
“Barry was in business and he’s been a good mentor and a good friend, and he got me convinced that I could go into business and be successful,” Hansen says of Dutchak.
From enough inventory to fill an apple box at their start, Prince Albert Alarms has grown to include 17 staff and now serves more than 5,000 clients in Prince Albert and across Northern Saskatchewan. Advances in technology have created more opportunities for the business to grow, but Wayne credits staff and their expertise and service to customers with the long-term success of the business.
“That’s what I’m very proud of is my team there … they’re all dedicated,” he added.
Wayne and his wife Donalda have two daughters: Jill and her husband Theo and Heather and her husband Jordan. To learn more about Mr. Hansen and his work in the community, join us at the Legacy Brunch Thursday, March 22 at the Travelodge Prince Albert.
