A Registered Massage Therapist, Certified Lymphatic Therapist, and Personal Fitness Trainer, Ms. Mooney is passionate about helping people feel better through treatment and developing better long-term health habits.
Ms. Mooney operates Eunique Massage & Fitness out of her home in Prince Albert, focusing on therapies around massage, manual lymph drainage and decongestive therapy, stretching and movement therapy and functional fitness. Ms. Mooney is also the only certified lymphatic private therapist north of Saskatoon, helping patients with swelling and issues around swelling.
Ms. Mooney believes in gentle therapies that also include other basic tenets of good health – exercise, good nutrition and rest. Her goal is to help patients feel better for the long term, so they don’t have to keep coming back for treatment. We are responsible for “fixing” ourselves through daily habits. Health care professionals can be guides, and treatment is helpful, but most importantly, we need to change the habits that are creating the problems, Ms. Mooney adds.
She began focusing on alignment and the ways the body is connected after noticing that she was treating patients, only to have them come back in a few weeks for another treatment because the pain had returned.
“To do this, to go home and have a good life doesn’t take anything special ... it’s mostly about training the brain to reconnect with the body,” she says of her work. “I teach people about alignment, posture, and how to move in efficient, healthy ways. Most people keep using the same old habits and the same old pains get worse. There is no truth to society’s expectations of aging where we expect to deteriorate. Yes, our hair will turn grey, and our skin will wrinkle, but with good movement, care, and nutrition we can avoid many maladies that are accepted by society.”
“I believe that I have learned some good methods that will help people have a good, healthy life. Treatment is important, home care is important, nutrition is a factor, how we think is a factor, how we sleep is a factor, and I believe I can help with those things. I use these methods for myself.”
Movement is fundamental for life, Mooney adds. As she explains on her website, movement therapy can help quiet the mind and alleviate stress that is often expressed through the body, such as through eating disorders or anxiety attacks. Movement therapy can help change moods and emotions and lead to increase self-confidence.
“It’s about helping your nervous system release the chronically tight areas,” she adds.
“Treatment is powerful, but not painful ... where it hurts is often a symptom. We can treat those symptoms all we want, but finding the source is most important. ”
Ms. Mooney works with people young and old, and from all walks of life. She continues to build on her knowledge and skills while treating clients out of her home office in Prince Albert. Her treatments are simple and easy.
“It’s all about being gentle with yourself and aware and not pushing yourself,” she adds.
“Many people believe that to be fit you must go hard. In my opinion, many people are damaging their joints when they are not well aligned. If we want to feel great in our later years we must be aware of maintaining good movement habits and preserving our joints.”
